Therapeutic Interventions in Cardiac Rehabilitation

Level 6

15 Credits

Initially cardiac rehabilitation as a component of cardiac services seems to have focussed on the patients who are in the Cardiac Care Units and on those attending the Cardiac Rehabilitation Centres. Over recent years, patients are discharged into the community as soon as their condition allows. This strategy facilitates early rehabilitation of the patient in his own surroundings so that the patient can resume his/her daily activities to his/her optimum level. Therefore, cardiac rehabilitation interventions are increasingly undertaken in the community. This is well evidenced in the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease 2000. Both managers and their staff within the community believe that the health care practitioner must possess the relevant in-depth knowledge and skills in cardiac rehabilitation therapy in order to effectively and efficiently deliver quality care to those people. Therefore, this module will enable not only hospital-based professionals, but also community staff, to fulfil this particular role.

In addition, the assessment will enable the practitioner to focus both in breadth and depth on the care of a person requiring cardiac rehabilitation. This will include liaison with and co-ordinating the multi-disciplinary team in the care of this client. The learning outcomes will be assessed by a poster presentation on the analysis of therapeutic interventions for cardiac rehabilitation.

Assessment

A 3000 word essay on the analysis of interventions used during cardiac rehabilitation.
