Breastfeeding Management Workshop
Workshop
This course is open to anybody who cares for breastfeeding mothers and babies/infants. It will enable participants to gain a high level of knowledge and skill to support breastfeeding in a variety of settings/situations. The course follows the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Best Practice Standards. It will enable NHS Trust staff to implement recommendations set by the Department of Health (2004) in Good Practice and Innovation in Breastfeeding.
Prior to the course participants will be expected to undertake an observation of a breastfeed. There will be two further clinical practices to undertake either during the course or within six weeks of the final day - teaching of positioning and attachment and hand expression of breast milk. On completion of all clinical practices a certificate will be issued for portfolios.
