Mentorship Work Based Approach

Mentorship Preparation Work-Based

The Mentorship Preparation (Work Based Approach) module has been developed to recognise prior learning from previous teaching/assessing qualifications for Health Care Practitioners. It meets relevant professional and regulatory bodies' statutory requirements.

Assessment

The learner must hold one of the qualifications listed below. This allows the learner to use the option where prior learning is encapsulated within the module activity. The learning and assessment activity is a work based approach with supportive materials on the virtual learning environment. The learner will undertake a practice assessment over twelve weeks supervised by a 'live mentor' within the practice area, to demonstrate they are meeting their professional body requirements (SLAiP NMC 2008; COPD 2009). This module does not provide academic credits. However, the module will be verified by the University as per the academic regulations and a sample of the practice assessment documentation sent to the external examiner.
The following qualifications will be considered to access this module:

  • Bachelor of Education
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCED)
  • Certificate in Education (CED)
  • English National Board (ENB 997/998)
  • City and Guilds 730 Part One and Two
  • National Vocational Qualification D32/33/34
  • NVQ Assessors Award Unit A1/A2

The learner will need to attend the university on the first morning of the module start date and will also need to provide a statement from their manager to support this application. The manager will be verifying that they have the relevant qualifications and are suitable to undertake this module. A copy of the learner's qualification certificate will be required upon application.
