Mental Health and Offending Behaviour
Level 7
30 Credits
This is a module in contemporary advanced forensic mental health practice. The aim of the module is to maximize evidence based assessment and practice with offenders that have a mental disorder.
The mental health and offending behaviour module will provide students with a theoretical understanding of criminal behaviour and its relationship to mental disorder. It will explore the roles and responsibilities of different agencies involved in the care pathway of mentally disordered offenders and offer students the opportunity to demonstrate extensive familiarity with civil and criminal law and how it is applied within forensic mental health services.
You will have an opportunity to raise your understanding of risk assessment, formulation and management with consideration of a diversity of contributing factors. You will also have an opportunity to develop an understanding of the complex needs that can be presented within different treatment and recovery settings in context of a biopsychosocial model based on contemporary care.
