This module is designed to meet the needs of registered nurses, health visitors, Midwives and health and social care practitioners in all health or social care setting. This module highlights the ethical and legal aspects related to their professional practice. There will be an analysis of legal cases and the statutory provision driving practice coupled with an exploration of current ethical issues, such as resource allocation and judicial review, issues of consent, death and dying and respecting life. The application of principles, theories and the legislative framework will be presented to students via reflective activities, case situations and scenarios, which will enable students to access their knowledge, trace their implications, refine their outcomes and evaluate the degree of moral justification they possess.

Target audience

This module is designed to meet the needs of registered nurses, health visitors, Midwives and health and social care practitioners in all health or social care setting.

Students can negotiate to do this module on a blended basis.

Assessment

The module comprises of five taught study days and students will attend the lectures, participate in students led seminars and discussions. The module will be taught by subject specialist in the field of law and ethics. Assessment will be a 6,000 words essay on a chosen topic of choice by the student.
