This module is aimed at decontamination technician to decontamination leads. This online module aims to educate and inform evidence based practice that encompasses the decontamination of flexible endoscopes. Student learning will be facilitated by the university via a distance learning approach to acquire the appropriate knowledge and skills required to understand the process of medical device decontamination for flexible endoscopes. The module will cover individual preparation for the environment, the decontamination process for flexible endoscopes, packing, storage and traceability. In addition, it will explore both local and national policies and regulations regarding Health and Safety, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health and Reporting of Injuries, Disease and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations in the workplace.

This module is designed for decontamination technician to decontamination leads. This learning zone module has the same approach as level 4 but enables the student to gain non-accredited academic certificate of attendance which has been recognised by the Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc), which is the UK's largest professional body for the decontamination of reusable medical devices. Students will undertake a series of formative e-activities to help develop their knowledge regarding decontamination of flexible endoscopes.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements, as these modules are designed to educate and inform all levels of staff employed within the decontamination services, from technicians to decontamination leads.
