Skyscape
A Show: Skyscape/Escape
By Chris Dobrowolski
Date: Monday 15 March - Thursday 25 March
Venue: Ruskin Gallery
Private View: Thursday 18 March
In an attempt to fulfil his Inner Need and to articulate the frustrations and challenges of his art education (in Hull) and the art world (in general), Chris Dobrowolski has built a series of extraordinary vehicles in which to escape from it all.
His journeys have become a series of rites of passage and the beginning of countless stories he has re-told all over the world. The most infamous of his escape attempts - in an aeroplane made out of tea-chests and newspaper, is captured in this exhibit Skyscape/Escape.
Thoughts from Chris: My background is as a sculptor but a contemporary art maker would be a more accurate description of what I do. In the past I have made several, very home made, "knocked up in my garden shed" vehicles from recycled materials, starting with a boat made from driftwood and culminating with an aeroplane made from tea chests and newspaper.
Chris has recently returned from the Antarctic where he was the Artist-In-Residence for the British Antarctic Survey.

What happens behind the codes?
Speakers will include:
- Tom Bonham-Carter (Partner, The Armstrong Bonham Carter Partnership) on the way that boards work
- David Charters (Former diplomat and investment banker; author of 'Trust Me I'm a Banker'); on how governance really works in merchant banking
