The future of computer games comes to Cambridge
Press release issued: 1 July 2008
Increasingly, computer games are in the news, and their imagery, animation and game play represent the cutting edge of digital technology.
But what do young people in the East of England think games will look like in the future?
An exhibition held at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge may hold the answers.
The NEXT Next-Gen (short for "Next Generation") exhibition is the result of a competition held by FDMX (The Film and Digital Media Exchange) to get young people across the region to show their art skills and visualise future games.
Now in its second year, the competition was fierce with students from Games courses and the general public across the region taking part. The winners of the competition will be announced on the opening night and will be awarded a prize of a Playstation 3, Wii or XBOX360.

Saint John Walker, FDMX organiser of the competition said:
"This exhibition is a barometer of the artistic talent and imagination of young people from 16 upwards in the region
"The games industry now outstrips the film and TV industries, so we're hoping many talented art students will see computer games as a worthwhile career path"
The regional games industry have generously donated prizes. Sony Games (based in Cambridge) have offered a special prize for one lucky winner of a tour round their studios to talk to their animators and designers. The regional screen agency Screen East are offering professional games design software for the most innovative game idea.
The NEXT next-gen exhibition is open from 9 July - 17 July at The Ruskin Gallery, Ruskin Building, Anglia Ruskin University, East Road, Cambridge CB1 1PT (Private View 18.00 - 21.00 Tuesday 8 July). All are welcome, not just gamers!
