Having fun while raising money on the Ruskin Run and Walk
Press release issued: 17 May 2007
Anglia Ruskin University has hosted its second 3.5km charity fun run to promote the idea of enhancing health and fitness and to raise money for charity.
Over 150 people took part in the newly named Ruskin Run and Walk on Thursday 10 May at Rivermead campus. It was aimed at everyone, including those who wanted to win, those who wanted to raise money for its charities and those who just wanted to do something fun.
Many participants entered into the 'fun' aspect of the run by wearing fancy dress and linking up to run in themed groups. The overall winner of the day was David Cornish. First student across the line was Atif Zeeshan, first female was Lorraine Smith; and David Groves and Justin Smith got the award for first teenager and 'under 10' to finish. Richard Dibley completed the course in a wheelchair.
Money raised from the day will go to three chosen charities:

Stephen Dupree from Anglia Ruskin University's Sports Department said:
"We were very pleased that everyone entered into the spirit of the walk and run, many dressing up for the occasion.
"People put in their best effort and that made for a fabulous atmosphere. We hope to have raised a substantial amount for our three chosen charities."
The run and walk started near Anglia Ruskin University's Mildmay Sports Centre and covered 3.5km of smooth terrain around Springfield Hall Park.
Continued Stephen:
"This event is a celebration of the fact that Anglia Ruskin University is such an integral part of the community of Chelmsford.
"We have always encouraged people to join us in our activities and share our facilities and the Ruskin Run and Walk is the ideal event to bring everyone together and have lots of fun."
Essex & Suffolk Water, Essex FM and Celebrate Chelmsford helped to sponsor the event. The event is a part of Celebrate Chelmsford, a programme of over 80 unique and entertaining events showcasing the best of what the borough and its community has to offer.
