Anglia Ruskin looks towards milestone move to Rivermead
Press release issued: 3 July 2006
The sale to Countryside Properties has been concluded on an unconditional basis. Following on from the vacation of the Park Road facility and the Anne Knight Building, dates have now been confirmed for the final push to move all teaching facilities to the fast-developing Rivermead area.
During the month of July 2007, the University will handover the North Block, the demountable building and the small car park to developers Countryside Properties plc. All other parts of the former campus will be passed over in the autumn of 2008. This will help to pave the way for the next phase in the redevelopment of the area into the planned Arts and Commercial Quarter.
"This is excellent news for the staff and students of Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford. It means that a new and immensely impressive campus facility is reaching the final stages of construction and will be available for the benefit of all who teach and study here.
"It has been a long road but the incredible vision of those who first began discussing the move of the University is now in sight.
"The reputation of Anglia Ruskin University is continuing to grow within the UK as news of these prestigious campus facilities continues to spread to all corners of the East of England and beyond.
"The major town centre regeneration project is exactly what Chelmsford needs to provide the vitality and growth in infrastructure that comes with a burgeoning university town. The new and exciting construction programme for this immediate area is moving tantalisingly closer.
"Anglia Ruskin University already provides an unrivalled, friendly and accessible higher education experience for the people of Chelmsford and we are delighted to see our development plans coming together so that enhanced and contemporary facilities are available to staff, students and the local community."
The new centre, positioned between the Tindal and Mildmay Buildings, should be up and running by the start of the academic year 2007.
