Final year students' poster evening
Press release issued: 3 April 2007
Students from the Department of Design and Technology at Cambridge presented posters of their final year dissertation projects on Thursday 29 March. This was part of their assessment for the module, but the difference this year was that the event was attended by members and representatives of various professional bodies like the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Refresh Cambridge and members of the Employers Advisory Group.
Event organisers, John Martin and Tim Reynolds, said:
"It was quite a brave move to open the work of our students to the scrutiny of local industry and professional bodies. But a department like ours - which prepares students for work in hi-tech organisations - cannot, and should not, work in the isolation of an academic bubble. If our work is up to the standards required by businesses, we should not be afraid to show them and listen to their feedback. The evening event was a very good experience, for students, staff and visitors alike, and we shall definitely build on this and do the same next year."
After the poster evening, a request was received from a representative of Kodak European Research for copies of some of the posters - an encouraging endorsement of the event! Plans are already being made for next year's event which will be on Thursday 17 April 2008.
