NEXT Next-Gen Games Competition

Press release issued: 22 April 2008

FDMX, in association with Anglia Ruskin University is pleased to announce that the "NEXT next-gen: a competition to visualise the future of games" is back for its second year, and we want your ideas!

We're looking for the best ideas for what a game might look like by the time we get to Playstation 4, 5 or even 6. An imaginative drawing and a little explanation could be all it takes to win a console of your choosing.

We're hoping games, graphics, art and design students, freelancers, professionals and hobbyists from across the region will send in their images, designs and explanations, which will result in a major exhibition and prize-giving in Cambridge. They can be in the form of drawings, animation, digital stills...anything. You don't even need to be a hard-core gamer to enter.

The deadline is 25 June, and the work will be judged by Sony, FDMX and other games luminaries. There are also some other interesting prizes from some of the UK's game legends to be announced soon.

An application form is available from apply@nextnext-gen.com and full competition details are being finalised and will be available from www.nextnext-gen.com

Be as innovative and unique as you like. We don't need working prototypes, or pale copies of today's genres, so let your imagination run riot.

Last year, the winners were 15 year old Hong Miao Shi for her self-styled Phantos system, Anglia Ruskin student Zed Enayet for his Vaulting Wall game and the Chronic Chaos Crew from Southend's South East Essex College. They all chose PS3s as prizes.

Now's your turn. How will your game differ from what's available now? Will it be based on a console, a mobile, or some other device? Will it be a multi-user online game, or a single player? What subject will it be about? Why will it be different? A couple of years ago, who would have thought the Wii would be so popular? Or the Sims, or GTA...now's your chance to think of something very different. Good luck!

The Next next-Gen Exhibition of entries will be on 8 July 2008 at the Ruskin Gallery, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge.
