New media production course meets the demands of the new 'iPod' generation
Press release issued: 16 June 2006
The degree, which admits its first students in September this year, mixes creativity with the theory and practice involved in applications of the underlying technology. It is designed to produce graduates who have the confidence and ability to engage with and manage at all levels in new media production.
"The rapid decline in the cost of digital cameras and audio equipment along with the rise in broadband use in the UK has led to a marked rise in new media production and consumption. Many new companies are expanding to exploit these opportunities, however in order pursue a career in these creative industries there is a requirement for both technical and creative skills which this degree is designed to provide.
"The course, delivered at the University's Cambridge campus, is a mixture of study and practical sessions. Assessment is largely by assignment and project work. For this reason the course is ideally suited to those with an existing interest in media and the ability to understand and apply the technology.
"As always, it is the University's mission to develop fast-thinking, work-ready graduates into business who have a competitive edge in the jobs market."
Design and Technology courses offered by the University are continuing to prove attractive to students and employers. Popular courses include Audio & Music Technology, Computer Aided visualization, Computer Gaming and Animation Technology and Internet technology.
