Money aids research to help make therapy available to all

A concert by the impressive Cambridge Orchestra on 27 January at the West Road Concert Hall in Cambridge is being staged in support of Anglia Ruskin University's Music Therapy Appeal.

The programme will feature Tristan & Isolde - Prelude and Liebestod by Wagner, Four Elegiac Portraits for Cello & Orchestra by Davison and Symphony Fantastique by Berlioz. The orchestra will be led by conductor Daryl Davison with Jeremie Maillard playing the Cello.

Dr Mary Archer, a Patron of the Music Therapy Appeal, will be a guest at the event.

Money raised from the evening will go towards the Appeal which was established in 1995. Music Therapy is used to help people suffering from a range of conditions to interact and communicate without words. People who are helped to break through their 'walls of silence' include those with autism, learning difficulties, dementia, physical disability, schizophrenia and depression.

Explains Appeal Co-Ordinator Sue Jacobs:

"We are very grateful for the continued support from the people of Cambridge for our Music Therapy Appeal and especially grateful to the Cambridge Orchestra for putting on this concert. We are looking forward to what promises to be another fantastic evening of music.

"As a result of past fundraising we now have an operational Music Therapy Clinic on the East Road campus. However, funds are still required for research into this amazing treatment in order to persuade government to make it available for all. Money raised also supports the training of practitioners and is used to buy specialised equipment and musical instruments for use in the clinic.

"Our message to everyone is please come along and help us raise some money."
