New MA for Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals will bring patient healthcare benefits

Ashcroft International Business School at Anglia Ruskin University partners up with Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to collaborate on the new work-based MA in Leadership and Management

A new work-based MA in Leadership and Management has been put together by leadership experts and academics with a view to increasing efficiencies at one of the leading hospital Trusts in the region.

Support for the project from Higher Skills@ Work at Anglia Ruskin University demonstrates the University's vision and commitment to engaging effectively with employers from the region.

This highly innovative Anglia Ruskin University Masters programme has been created by academics from the Ashcroft International Business School, at Anglia Ruskin University, with Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals for the training of senior staff. The bespoke degree meets the precise requirements of the Trust for the delivery of leadership projects which will bring measurable results in a clinical setting.

The launch of this MA programme represents the culmination of 18 months' development work between the Ashcroft International Business School and Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals.
Alan Whittle, Chief Executive, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:

"I had the privilege of being involved at the beginning of the development of this programme. We are treading on new ground and I expect others to be following our example.

"Looking at the range of participants, it is great to see people from all backgrounds, with aspirations of academic improvement - and the organisation stands to benefit. The launch of this programme coincides with the NHS looking again at how to survive and thrive in the current environment. The outputs from the programme will feed into our Trust plans."

The MA in Leadership and Management programme has been designed to meet specific operational and strategic challenges faced by Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals and to improve the leadership competencies of senior staff.
Keith Baggs, Director of Education and Training, Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:

"This programme is the result of close collaboration between our Trust and the Ashcroft International Business School to develop an innovative, high quality leadership programme which enables our staff to maximise their leadership potential."

At the heart of the MA is a series of practical projects, based on real life leadership challenges, with supporting academic and practical leadership content, including topics such as leadership foundations, leadership skills, leading change and coaching.
Jon Salkeld, Director of Corporate Education and UK Partnerships at Anglia Ruskin University, added:

"This exciting, flagship, programme is unique in that it develops high-level leadership skills specifically for people who work within an organisation.

"The programme will test and develop each participant's tactical and strategic leadership abilities, as well as developing entrepreneurial skills which will challenge them, and the organisation, to think in new directions."
