Mumford Theatre to host Lucy Landymore's homecoming concert
Press release issued: 31 January 2011
"I think Cambridge is a very musical city and it's always nice to play with people you know. I grew up in a musical family and have always been involved with music around Cambridge since I first started learning the drums in primary school. Now I often get to play in orchestras with my parents since they are both flautists."
"The BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition was certainly a fantastic performing experience and I loved every minute of it. It has made parts of my life better, but also busier! Last November I performed Stephen Barlow's Nocturne for Clarinet, Marimba and Strings with Emma Johnson and this term I have been asked to do recitals and concertos across England, two of which are in Cambridge.
"Soon I will be playing Nebojsa Zivkovic's Tales from the Centre of the Earth percussion concerto with the Cambridge Symphonic Winds and Darius Milhaud's Concerto for Marimba and Vibraphone with the City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra.
"It's like having the perfect life, I'm doing what I love every single day! I used to count down the days to Saturday for "junior college" at the Royal College of Music, and now I'm there full time. I've always wanted to perform for a living, whether it's playing in a small group, preparing for a solo recital or being part of an orchestra."
