Anglia Ruskin student finishes first in the BUCS Outdoor Athletics Championships
Anglia Ruskin University student James Shane claimed gold in his first race for 18 months in the British Universities and Colleges Sport Outdoor Athletics Championships in Bedford yesterday (Monday 6 May).James, a 23 year old from Basildon who is studying Primary Education in Chelmsford, clocked a time of 3m 43.29s, beating Jake Wightman (3m 43.74s) from Loughborough University and Philip Hurst (3m 45.29s) from Sunderland University in the Men's 1500m.
Speaking about his performance, Helen Boyle, High Performance Sport Co-ordinator at Anglia Ruskin University said:
"We are incredibly proud of James's achievements this weekend. After a tough year out through injury it was great to witness him back on the track and back to winning ways.
"These championships have been particularly successful as all four of our athletes made it to their finals. Louise Lockwood finished 6th place in the Women's Javelin, Gemma Coe finished 8th in the Women's 1500m and Peter Kirabo made the triple jump final and finished 9th. It's been a fantastic Bank Holiday weekend."
