With thousands of university applicants competing for places this summer, distance learning leader ICS has partnered with Anglia Ruskin University to offer a solution.

Together they have developed a distance learning portfolio of degrees which could help some disappointed students to continue into higher education.

ICS is offering five degrees and its first distance learning Masters degree through the partnership with Anglia Ruskin University. The courses are totally flexible so they can be studied part-time and at your own convenience, making them ideal for students who want to study for a degree but have not been accepted by their campus-based university of choice.
ICS managing director Sally Pulvertaft said:

"With universities struggling to match this summer's increased demand for places, distance learning can offer a really positive solution. Anglia Ruskin University already has a strong association with the provision of flexible learning and our partnership with them means we can hopefully help some students to advance their studies while this difficult situation continues."

The courses being offered by ICS and Anglia Ruskin University include BA Hons degrees in English, History and History & English, as well as an LLM in International Business Law. There is also an International Management Top-Up degree which will be available for international students and those who are looking to bring existing lower level qualifications up to a full degree.

All these courses will be delivered off-campus, with supervision by ICS appointed staff and assessment and moderation by Anglia Ruskin University.
Dr Tom Mortimer, acting head of Anglia Ruskin University's Law School said:

"One of our key objectives is to increase the number of students working in a non-traditional way. This range of courses enables us to do just that and will allow us to develop further programmes that encourage students to access graduate and post-graduate education in new and exciting ways."

The LLM in International Business Law is a first for ICS. It is the first post-graduate qualification that the company has developed. It is particularly aimed at would-be solicitors or barristers with first degrees but also legal or business professionals who want to improve their knowledge of international business law. The course balances theory and practice across topics ranging from EU Law, international employment law, to corporate governance and corporate and financial regulation.
Sally Pulvertaft added:

"More generally, higher education establishments are increasingly looking at how the flexibility of distance learning can help them deliver accredited degrees without having to have the student on campus or adhere to a fixed timetable. Our partnership with Anglia Ruskin University shows that established academic institutions can enhance their delivery to students with the help of distance learning providers like ICS."

From its headquarters in Glasgow, ICS delivers distance learning to 45,000 UK and International students. It has just been bought by the German educational publishing giant Cornelsen as part of its strategy to create a pan-European distance learning provider. Anglia Ruskin University has 24,000 students, many of whom study flexibly, and two campus bases in Cambridge and Chelmsford in Essex.
