Hitting the hills
Press release issued: 14 August 2011
Two of Cambridge's amateur boxers are getting ready to spend 3 weeks hiking around Scotland. Starting from just outside Glasgow the pair will walk first to Inverness, then on to Aberdeen.
The 350-mile trek will be raising money for DC Boxing club, a Cambridge-based boxing club with a focus on junior boxers. DC Boxing recently achieved success through young boxer Demie-Jade Resztan, who won the National Schools Female Championship at 44 kg.
Phill Richardson, 28, has recently graduated from Anglia Ruskin University with a PhD in Acoustics.

Phill, who came up with the idea for the trip, said:
"It will be beautiful out there, but we're walking a minimum of 350 miles carrying all our camping equipment, so it's going to be hard."
Heley Matthews, 22, has recently graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in Biochemistry. Heley, who hasn't been camping in 7 years, said: "I'm looking forward to the challenge, especially climbing Ben Nevis, and DC Boxing is a great club to raise money for".
The 2 friends met through kickboxing. Heley is one of the coaches at Cambridge University Kickboxing Society whilst Phill is captain of Anglia Ruskin University Kickboxing Club. Both split their time between boxing and kickboxing, but DC Boxing was chosen as the club in need of support.
Phil said:
"DC Boxing has a focus on technique and on developing youngsters. Anyone from the town or either university is welcome to join, and it provides a great service to anyone interested in taking up boxing."
Justin Spring, one of the senior boxers and coach at DC Boxing, said "The sponsored trek for the club shows just how much our club means to the boxers, they care about the club and don't think they should just turn up for a session and forget it until the next one. Everyone wants to get involved."
The walk is scheduled to take place at the end of August, and the pair aim to raise at least £1500 to buy new equipment for the club.
