A new regional centre offering professional support to the languages community in schools and FE Colleges in East Anglia was launched on 30th June 2009.

The University of Cambridge's Director of the Language Centre, Anny King, is to head the Regional Centre, involving both Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University, to bring continuing professional development to language teachers in schools and colleges. This is a continuation of the successful partnership already existing between Cambridge University Language Centre and the Anglia Ruskin University Language Centre, headed by Annie Morgan-James, within the Routes into Languages project.

Links into Languages is a £7 million programme funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), and led by a team in the Subject Centre for Language, Linguistics and Area Studies (LLAS). This is a significant national programme which aims to have considerable impact in the teaching of languages across the secondary sector.

Links into Languages East is one of nine centres across England, all based at universities, where language professionals can access development courses and training. The East of England Regional Centre will also provide facilities for meetings and a library of the latest resources at both Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University.

The new centre will be based at both the University of Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin University and will be under the direction of Anny King of Cambridge University.

Mrs King, together with Annie Morgan-James, Director of the Anglia Ruskin University Language Centre launched the East of England Regional Centre on Tuesday 30 June 2009 at Anglia Ruskin University.
