Pro cyclist put through his paces at Anglia Ruskin
Press release issued: 29 February 2012
Anglia Ruskin University's Sports Science team have been helping professional cyclist David Mclean gear up for the new season.
Mclean, who is racing for the Croatian Meridiana Kamen team, underwent a series of rigorous tests to assess his fitness levels at the Human Energetics and Performance Centre at Anglia Ruskin's Cambridge campus.
The Cambridge-based cyclist visited the labs after returning from an intensive winter training camp in the Canary Islands and undertook testing for VO2max (maximum oxygen uptake) and the measurement of lactic acid at various work rates.
Mclean, who has just competed in the UCI 1.1 GP Lugano in Switzerland where he raced against reigning Tour de France champion Cadel Evans, said:
"It's really important for me to be tested regularly and accurately so I can train as efficiently as possible.
Anglia Ruskin has always provided me with an extremely professional service, using the best and most reliable equipment available. 2012 is going to be a big season for me as I will ride my most difficult and fullest calendar to date, so any advantage I can get from Anglia Ruskin is crucial."
Sports Science Research Assistant Oliver Caddy said:
"These tests are extremely demanding but David always steps us to the plate and gives his all."
While competing for Meridiana Kamen, the 27-year-old will spend the first half of the season based in Italy. To follow Mclean's progress and find out how you can sponsor him, visit www.davidmcleancyclist.com
