Anglia Ruskin graduate launches countdown to 2012 Paralympics
Press release issued: 27 April 2011
World champion Paralympic swimmer and Anglia Ruskin University graduate Fran Williamson has launched her own Twitter account to count down to the start of the London games in 2012.
The 25-year-old, who gained a first class honours degree in Social Policy from Anglia Ruskin, said:
"I thought the Twitter service would be a great way to share my road to London with everyone.
"It is now less than 500 days to go to the opening of the Paralympic Games in 2012, so it will come round very quickly. By following my account, which is @franswimsto2012, people can see what I'm doing each day."
Launching the Twitter account is the latest development in a busy period for Fran, who was recently named in the Great Britain squad for the European Championships in Berlin this July. She has also embarked on a sponsorship drive ahead of 2012, to help fund specialist coaching and equipment.
Fran added:
"I am always really grateful for the support that I have from people in Cambridge. It is such an honour to be representing them and the country as a whole."
Fran has been on the GB team for more than 10 years, and has won medals at the Paralympic games at Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. Berlin will be Fran's second European Championships, the first being at Stockholm in 2001, where she gained bronze medals in the 200m freestyle and the 4x50m freestyle events.
