Massive support and line up for Community Fun Day

Organisers of Anglia Ruskin University's Community Family Fun Day have confirmed that the forthcoming event is going to be one of the largest public events our University has ever staged. Community groups, local businesses, stall holders, academics, staff and students are all set to join in and support this new massive-scale campus-based day of activities.

The all day celebration of university life, on Saturday 29 September, will see Anglia Ruskin University welcoming members of the community onto campus to see our University at first hand.

There will be:
  • the chance to enjoy interactive workshops from the various departments
  • participate in public lectures and music recitals
  • see a large display of trade and car boot stalls
  • enjoy entertainment from bands
  • local Morris dancers
During a number of live, but fully-controlled sessions on campus, professional graffiti artists will be demonstrating their art; and children will be entertained throughout the event by a rolling series of activities and attractions including an alien-puppet show.

Included in the programme for the day will also be a series of:
  • 'totally irresponsible experiments' performed by staff from the Forensic Science department
  • taster sessions in foreign languages
  • quizzes
  • art exhibitions
With the return to the new semester and academic year, it will also be a day for Freshers to invite their families along to see where they are studying and what types of activities are on offer.
Tara White, Community Development Officer at Anglia Ruskin University, commented:

"We have been overwhelmed at the response to this day. So many community groups, stand holders and businesses have volunteered to join in that we have had to upgrade our original plans to accommodate all the additional activities.

"This day will show Anglia Ruskin University and its students off in the best way imaginable. Many of the activities are interactive and that's what has attracted all the interest. Everyone is welcome to come and join in the fun - and who knows, some of our weekend visitors might decide to come and study with us.

"We want people of all ages and backgrounds to come along, meet the students and see Anglia Ruskin University for what it is, an exciting and developing institution of which everyone can be proud."

The event is being supported by Anglia Ruskin's Art Council. Money raised will be re-invested in the Arts Council or some of the many community projects that our University rolls out during the year.

The Community day, on 29 September, is open to all.

The event, which runs from 11:00am to 3:00pm, will include all open spaces and indoor areas on East Road campus. It is free to members of the public.
