In aid of the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity

On 28 March 2008, one of Anglia Ruskin University's Business Development Managers will be discarding her stilettos and replacing them with sturdy trekking boots when she sets out to meet the challenge of a lifetime.

As a long serving member of the Faculty of Health and Social Care and a member of Anglia Ruskin University's Board of Governors, Marcia Baldry, from Dunmow, is very well known to colleagues and students at Rivermead campus. It was when she read her copy of the Helen Rollason Newsletter asking volunteers to trek to Peru for the Helen Rollason Heal Cancer Charity that she knew this was one challenge she could not refuse.
Marcia explains:

"I have always wanted to experience the majestic Andes and take in what can only be described as truly breathtaking scenery - so when I read that the charity I have worked with and supported for so many years was looking for volunteers I could not resist the opportunity. It means I can fulfil a lifetime's ambition and support a brilliant charity all at the same time!

"Without really thinking about the consequences - was I fit enough? Would I be alone? What are the sleeping arrangements? Could I meet the challenge? I completed the application form and was accepted to take part.

"Now reality has set in and I am beginning to feel a combination of excitement and apprehension. My priority is to get my fundraising underway."

Marcia has already held a Paddington Bear Day at Anglia Ruskin University. As a member of the Greville Theatre Club, she has recently staged six performances of J B Priestley's 'When we are married', had four raffles for the Charity and staged 'A Girls Nite In' to treat ladies to an evening of fashion, make up demonstrations and much more.
Tony West, Director of Research Development Services, commented of the trip:

"Marcia is a hugely popular and outgoing member of our team and we wish her everything of the best with this exciting trek for an excellent cause. I have no doubt that she will approach this challenge with the same energy and determination that she brings to her work and for this reason I am confident of her ultimate success."

In between events, Marcia will be working hard to get fit so that she can face the altitude.
