Anglia Chamber Orchestra and Chorus will present a concert of orchestral and vocal music spanning 150 years

Anglia Ruskin University's Chamber Orchestra and Chorus will join forces on 10 December at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge under the batons of conductors Paul Rhys and Alan Rochford, with Maurice Hodges as piano soloist.

Hanns Eisler's colourful Suites No. 1 and No. 2, which take popular and folk music as their inspiration, are accompanied by the sumptuous Winterschlacht-Suite for narrator and orchestra, to a text by Johannes Becher. Completing the first half of the programme are three songs by Kurt Weill, The Ballad of Sexual Slavery, Le Grand Lustucru and Surabaya Johnny, arranged by Luciano Berio.

Anglia Chorus joins the orchestra for Mendelssohn's Psalm 42 and the concert culminates with a performance of Beethoven's magnificent Choral Fantasy, with its echoes of 'Ode to Joy' from the composers' ninth symphony.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the Mumford Theatre Box Office: £10 (£7 concessions; £5 students) Tel: 01223 352932 and on the door.
