Construction has started on three accommodation blocks in Cambridge which will be available to Anglia Ruskin University students from September 2012.

The CB1 development, which is adjacent to Cambridge railway station, will feature 511 en-suite bed spaces, mostly in flats with 5-9 students sharing kitchen / living areas, plus 112 self contained studio-type apartments.

Paul Harris, Anglia Ruskin University's Accommodation Services Manager, said:

"We are excited this development is now progressing after several years of negotiations.

"The rooms will be within easy walking or cycling distance of our East Road campus. Alongside our accommodation, the CB1 development plans include a range of other buildings - including shops, restaurants, bars, residential space and offices.

"We look forward to offering this lifestyle to our students and believe it will be a great asset to Anglia Ruskin University."

The investment of £40 million to build the accommodation comes from the developer Brookgate and its partners. The buildings will be available to Anglia Ruskin on a nomination agreement rather than a standard lease. This means no upfront costs and guaranteed long-term availability of accommodation for our students.

The buildings are designed to achieve a BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) "excellent" rating for sustainability, which is in line with Anglia Ruskin's strong environmental commitment.
