Careers in Early Years: exciting study opportunities with Anglia Ruskin University

Press release issued: 31 July 2009

The Faculty of Education is proud to announce its latest additions to our established and successful portfolio of courses for Early Years practitioners.

The Government through its Every Child Matters policy and other initiatives has launched an ambitious agenda to reform the Children's Workforce including setting higher qualification targets for Early Years Practitioners.

Supporting this national agenda for changing the Children's Workforce, we have created an Honours degree aimed at those who want to become Early Years workers. This degree, the BA (Hons) Early Years Professional Practice, blends together university-based study with extensive placement-based learning so ensuring that, on completion, the graduate will have both a secure grasp of the ideas that underpin effective practice and a considerable body of first-hand experience across a range of Early Years settings.

The Workforce Reforms also call for the creation of a cadre of leading professionals, ideally educated to at least Masters Level, who are capable not only of leading practice in their own settings but also contribute effectively to a broader community of practice.

Our new Masters degree, the MA Early Years Professional Practice has been designed to meet both demands. It was designed in conjunction with Essex County Council's Early Years Service so ensuring its cutting-edge relevance to Early Years practitioners.

Our well-established BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies has just completed a review and now has a more explicitly international focus with the opportunity to study abroad in the second year.

The Sector-Endorsed Foundation degree Early Years Childcare and Education continues to provide excellent developmental opportunities for experienced Early Years practitioners.

A limited number of places have been reserved for late applicants on the two professional studies courses, and on the Early Childhood Studies degree which is offered at both Chelmsford and Cambridge campuses.
