Anglia Ruskin Judo Team at British University and Colleges Championships (BUCS)

On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March Anglia Ruskin Judo Club entered their first BUCS championships. The club was only created in September 2008 and was not expected to do well. In the individual event Nick Barker (Coaching & Physical Education) won a gold in the u100kg division and another player, Wesley Anderson (Sports Science) came 5th.
Fifteen universities entered a men's team on the Sunday including Cambridge University, Oxford University, Loughborough University, Edinburgh University and Durham University. In the first pool Anglia Ruskin beat Glasgow University and Loughborough University but lost to London Imperial. In the second pool they lost to Edinburgh University and thought they were out of the competition, but were then called for a bronze medal fight against Warwick University. The result of this fight was 3-2 with it all coming down to the teams lightweight Aaron Gordon (Public Services). Anglia Ruskin came a respectable 5th.
The team consisted of: Nick Barker (Coaching and Physical Education); Akim Lasississi (International Management); Wesley Anderson (Sports Science); Nicolas Antolinos (International Management); Aaron Gordon (Public Services).
