Involvement of Service Users and Carers in Training Social Work Students

Service users and carers are extensively involved at Anglia Ruskin University in the training of social work students. The General Social Care Council, the professional body that governs the professional social work qualification, requires that service users and carers be involved in every way in the training of social work students (Dept of Health 2002). Service users and carers should be involved in a variety of ways: in student selection, the design of the degree, teaching and learning provision, preparation for practice placements, provision of placements, learning agreements, assessment and quality assurance (Levin, 2004, p. 8).
