This exhibition by third year BA (Hons) Fine Art students at Cambridge School of Art was the result of a specific project set on the course: to work both with portraiture and using photographic technology.

The brief, to experiment within set parameters, represented an opportunity to work slightly outside the comfort zone. Artists rarely work in such a prescriptive way, unless producing commissions. For some, Vignette represented a completely new area of study, which both informed and enriched their practice.

Vignette looks beyond the traditional portrait to raise issues of identity, beauty, the gaze, voyeurism, pressure to conform and a sense of place.

The exhibition was curated by third year student Sarah Rush in collaboration with fellow students and Fine Art staff.
