Postcards for Japan

Date: 5 - 11 September 2011
Time: 8.00 - 17.00, Monday - Saturday
Venue: Michaelhouse Café, St. Michael's Church, Trinity Street, Cambridge

Students from our Children's Book Illustration pathway organised this exhibition to raise funds for the Japan earthquake relief effort. 'Postcards for Japan' featured original artwork by both student and professional artists/illustrators, which was be exhibited and sold anonymously, all at the same price.

The MA Children's Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art has strong links with Japan: Japanese students come here to study, and staff have travelled there to teach. The ethos of the exhibition is best summed up by this statement on the exhibition website:

"As individual artists and illustrators, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless in the face of such disaster. As a group, we hope to do more. Donating the proceeds of this exhibition to a charity that focuses its support on the children of northern Japan seems the best way for us, as illustrators for children, to contribute what we can to rebuilding their future."

This exhibition was part of the Teachers for Japan voluntary initiative.
