An exhibition celebrating the quality and diversity of thirteen contemporary, regional artists using a variety of media including painting, films, prints, vinyl cuts, installations, photography, interventions.

Contributing artists include Jeremy Andrews, Helen Bendon, Adam Bridgland, Jo Chapman, Yara El Sherbini, Nikki Goldup, Mike Harding, CJ Mahony, Nicola Naismith, Lyndall Phelps, Deanna Tyson, Simon Woolham and Fran Crowe.

This exhibition also incorporates the Sculpt, Wear, Record Workshop on Saturday 1 August, 2-4pm.

Entrance to this workshop is free and includes basic materials. It is open to ages 11+ (although 11-16 will need to be accompanied by an adult/guardian), and suitable for beginners through to those more experienced with using textiles.

This session will be led by Nikki Goldup, a local visual artist and educator. She has had 13 years experience working with adults and young people within gallery and formal educational settings.

The inspiration for the workshop is her new work shown within the 'Blue Sky' exhibition. These pieces observe surface quality, repeat and transformation. Nikki uses dressmaking techniques to produce complex fabrics that echo organic and architectural forms.

The two hour session will begin with a brief overview of Nikki's practice and the links that exist within the fashion and art worlds. Following this, you will be given the opportunity to explore the surface of jersey t-shirt fabric in a playful, sculptural and experimental manner.

By deconstructing, manipulating and reconstructing fabrics, you will make new forms and garments that have refreshed identities. You will be invited to use a digital camera and digital video camera to record your pieces, while being worn. These images will be shown as a presentation at the end of the workshop and will allow time for reflection and discussion about the learning and cognition that has developed during the workshop.

Materials will be provided, but it would be useful to bring any knitwear or old t-shirts that you are willing to cut up or manipulate.

Please book by signing up in the Ruskin Gallery. For further information please email Nikki Goldup.
