The Representation, Identity, Body Research Unit (RIB) aims to develop critical, historical, analytic and socio-cultural research relating to representation, identity and the body in an interdisciplinary context. We are dedicated to exploring these areas of inquiry in a diverse range of media, including cinema, television, virtual media, theatre, performance, literature and art, informed by a range of theoretical approaches.
In developing an interdisciplinary agenda, it is hoped that the Unit will be marked by its diversity and opportunities for cross-fertilisation and collaboration across subject areas, both intellectually and creatively.

In the most recent Research Assessment Exercise, RAE 2008, five subjects within the Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences were rated as having 'internationally excellent' research and four subject areas as having 'world-leading' research. English and History were among the top-rated departments in the country.
