Simulation at the PMI

September 2011 saw the opening of the world class high-fidelity simulation centre at the PMI. The suite consists of 2 simulation laboratories housing a family of physiologically responsive wireless mannequins, including an adult male, a pregnant female, a 5-year-old child, a 1-year-old infant and a neonate. The suite's versatile design supports training of different professionals in a variety of simulated environments - from a patient's home to the intensive care unit and beyond.

Current courses at the simulation suite include Simulated Transfer and Retrieval Training (START), a multidisciplinary course for all doctors and nurses involved in the transfer of the critically ill patient; Anaesthetic Critical Incidents (ACI) for trainee anaesthetic doctors; and Eastern Airway Skills Training (EAST) for more senior anaesthetists, Simulation events covering obstetric, paediatric, nursing and surgical emergencies will start in early 2012. Full details of all our courses and events are on the PMI website.

Our experienced and enthusiastic faculty of trainers aim to improve the way acute, life-threatening events are managed by healthcare teams, and by so doing, improve patient safety. Simulation-based education is part of the PMI's commitment to work with its partners to improve quality of care for all patients. If you are interested in developing a simulation training event or course for any healthcare workers - from student nurses to senior doctors, and from primary to tertiary care - please contact us at the PMI.
