The Professional Development Framework of the Academy of Medical Educators identifies seven competencies for Postgraduate Medical Supervisors.
This half day programme looks in detail at the role of the Educational Supervisor and the competencies that are his or her particular responsibility.

Workshop objectives:
- Review the role of the Educational Supervisor
- Self-assess against the Professional Development Framework
- The Educational Contract and monitoring trainee progress
- Identify the features of a good environment for learning and how supervisors enhance it
- Consider the intellectual and emotional aspects of learning in order to understand common trainee problems
- Discuss tailoring training methods to style and need
- Practise developmental conversation skills
- Consider some difficult situations with trainees
- Identify career guidance resources
Suitable for:
Educational Supervisors, and those considering the role.Note: this half day programme builds on the 'Clinical supervisors - Professional development' day and it is recommended that Educational Supervisors attend that first.
