FOCUS - Foundation Course Using Simulation

FOCUS at the PMI

Simulation training for Foundation Year 1 doctors who manage acutely ill patients.

A full day of simulated practice at managing acute medical and surgical emergencies in our high fidelity simulation suite.

Suitable for Foundation Year 1 doctors.

Featuring:
  • Simulated scenarios based on real emergencies commonly encountered on the wards or in A&E
  • Systematic approach to the management of sick patients, for both real life and for exams
  • Resuscitation practice in a risk free environment
  • Review of clinical management as per national and local guidelines
  • Structured debrief and feedback on both clinical and human factor aspects
  • Competency maps to Foundation curriculum point 3.0: Recognition and management of the acutely ill patient

The day is not an assessment. It is simply a learning opportunity for you to revise your skills at managing common medical emergencies. You are not expected to role-play as it is important that you behave as you would in real life. The focus of feedback after each scenario will be on the clinical management of the case, but may also include non-technical aspects such as team working. Each scenario is recorded to assist in debriefing but all recordings are deleted after the course. No aspect of your simulator performance is passed back to your clinical supervisors.

The aim of the day is to combine learning with a little fun.
