EAST - Eastern Airway Skills Training course

The EAST course is a one day course aimed at anaesthetic trainees and speciality doctors in anaesthesia. Also suitable for Consultants wishing to refresh their skills and knowledge. It encompasses all areas of airway management with an emphasis on small group workshops and interactive lectures. The number of places is limited to 16 to allow plenty of time for practical skills.

Workshop sessions

Fibreoptics - mechanics of the scope, techniques and practical
The surgical airway - cricothyroidotomy, percutaneous tracheostomy
Failed intubation - failed intubation drills and scenarios using simman
Supraglottic devices - iLMA, LMA and other devices

Lecture/discussion sessions

Airway assessment and management of expected difficult airway
Difficult Airway Society guidelines on unexpected difficult airway
Management of awake fibreoptic intubation
Extubation issues

We have support from several companies providing a range of fibreoptic scopes, videolaryngoscopes and other airway equipment for use during the course.
