Chris Jones
Recruitment Events Manager
chris.jones@anglia.ac.uk
Ask me about... "Open days and evenings (postgraduate and undergraduate) and our clearing activity over the summer"
"I manage Anglia Ruskin University's Recruitment Events at both our Cambridge and Chelmsford campuses, focusing on visitor satisfaction, innovation and best practice ideas. Liaising both within and outside of the Outreach & Recruitment team my role here is challenging, interesting and rewarding.
I've worked for a television company, the Millennium Dome, a high street bank and the Law Society. I pull skills from all of these roles to deliver large university events regularly throughout each year. When I'm not organising events I'm an acoustic singer-songwriter."
Emma Seward
Outreach & Recruitment Officer

Ask me about... "Reach for the Stars, Bridging the Gap: School to University and Access HE"
"As an Outreach & Recruitment Officer, lots of my time is spent out and about working with schools and colleges to raise aspirations and to spread the word about higher education. I love my job because every day is different; from working with Year 6 on our popular Reach for the Stars programme, to talking to Year 9 about options, to Year 10 taster days, to Year 13 Student Finance. I'm quite a busy bee - I can often be spotted either on campus at various events, in the office, or on the road visiting schools and colleges across the region.
I studied BA (Hons) Primary Education with English at the University of Winchester. After Uni, I worked as a Year 6 teacher, then a Year 5/6 teacher, then a Year 3 teacher at two different primary schools in Surrey. When I moved to sunny Essex in 2012, I fancied a new challenge and joined Anglia Ruskin's Outreach & Recruitment team.
I have just bought a new house, so my free time is spent paintbrush in hand at the moment. When I'm not decorating, I enjoy baking, shopping and going on long walks in the countryside."
Marc Rothera
Outreach & Recruitment Manager

Ask me about... "Pretty much anything really! I'm pretty good on Student Finance and Personal Statements, I also oversee the evaluation of our programmes and am working with our Digital Marketing Officer to enhance our toolkit and make it suitable for the internet age."
"I manage the Cambridge office and the two Outreach & Recruitment Officers based there. I also represent our team and university at local and regional network groups. My favourite thing is knowing you've made a positive difference in someone's life. Just the other week I was buying some new trousers in Cambridge and the girl behind the counter said to me 'You're the reason I study at Anglia Ruskin' and went on to explain that she'd attended an event that I'd organised and she'd so enjoyed the talk I gave it convinced her to attend.
My first degree was European Philosophy and Literature, right here at Anglia Ruskin University. I subsequently took a Masters In Community Education with a professional (JNC) qualification in Youth Work.
I'm involved with a few bands doing recording and mixing and I recently completed the construction of a small studio in my house. I enjoy eating out, playing with my RaspberryPi (there's a not very well hidden geek in me), calling my cat names and buying old vinyl records in charity shops."
Katerina Kanlis

Ask me about... "the Applying to University conference and applicant days"
"In my role I provide information and advice to anyone considering higher education. This involves visiting schools and colleges, hosting campus visits, and delivering presentations and workshops. I work with prospective students from a range of educational backgrounds. I inform people about the courses on offer, the student experience, and the work we do at Anglia Ruskin University. I love developing projects, organising events, and helping people find out information which could inform their future career path.
I am a recent graduate beginning a career in higher education liaison at Anglia Ruskin University. At university I enjoyed studying a range of literature, cinema, creative writing and mythology modules. Around my studies I worked with students, children, and alumni as a Student Ambassador, an Aimhigher Associate, and a Student Alumni Caller."
Jenny Webster
a>Senior Outreach & Recruitment Officer Administrator
jenny.webster@anglia.ac.uk
Ask me about... "conferences for Access Students or Careers staff as I organise these each year. I also oversee our representation at UCAS fairs across the country to ensure you can meet a member of our team at each event in the South East region"
"I manage the administration for the team to ensure that all activities are supported and run smoothly as well as organising some conferences from start to finish. I am a good first point of contact if you want some help and information as I have been in post for six years now. I love the variety of my role from one day to the next, with no two days the same; I never know what I'm going to be asked to get involved in next!
I have a BA (Hons) English, Theatre Arts and Dance degree from the University of Plymouth, and spent my summers as a student working in a university admissions office to help support myself through my studies. This gave me a love of working in an Educational environment, and a passion that everyone should go to university if they get the chance.
On a weekend I enjoy a bit of retail therapy with my daughter or cheering on my son's rugby team or going to a Saracens match. I also like to keep up my love of dance with regular Zumba classes."
Daisy Baxendale
a>Outreach & Recruitment Administrator
daisy.baxendale@anglia.ac.uk
Ask me about... "Everything and anything about the team and I will always find you an answer"
"I started my role in November 2012 as an administrator, giving support to the officers with all their events and being the main point of contact for the team phone and central inbox as well as looking after stock. I love working with such a great team and communicating with a varied range of people and that no one day is ever the same.
Since achieving my Diploma in Administration and Secretarial procedures I have worked in administration type roles. I have previously worked at South Essex College but my most recent role was at Writtle College. Whilst working at Writtle I had a very busy and varied role in the Student Services department and after four years I felt ready for a new challenge.
In my spare time I enjoy socialising with my friends, trying out new restaurants, trips to the cinema and I have a slight addiction to afternoon tea. To balance out all my socialising I like to try and keep fit by trying out different gym classes including aqua Zumba and hula hooping."
Rachel Nedwell
a>Head of Outreach & Recruitment
rachel.nedwell@anglia.ac.uk
Ask me about... "the overall work of our team, our strategy, targeting, evaluation and of course our outreach activity directly linked to our Access Agreement."
"I oversee all aspects of our teams strategy and operational delivery ensuring that we are carrying out the best possible work with the right people. I also look after the development and support of our team and all budget requirements. I enjoy helping team members to develop in their roles and create fantastic events that impact on people's lives.
I am a scientist by background, with undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications in Geography and Marine Management. My enjoyment and experience in planning, organising and people management has lead me to be where I am now. In my spare time I love spending time in the great outdoors especially by the coast."
Claire Duke
a>Outreach & Recruitment Officer
claire.duke@anglia.ac.uk
"I am responsible for liaising with sixth forms and colleges, mainly in Essex. I have been working at the University for five years and have a background in Admissions. I am local to Essex and went to Hylands School and Sixth Form before studying for a degree in Humanities at the University of Essex. Outside of work I love to go Salsa dancing!"
Rachael Cole
a>Outreach & Recruitment Officer
rachael.cole@anglia.ac.uk
Ask me about... "Writing personal statements, finance information, Open Days, Summer Schools and Uni4U"
"I help young people consider Higher Education. I am also responsible for supporting our Events manager with the smooth running of Open Days. My favourite thing about working for the Outreach & Recruitment team is the feeling you get when a young person realises that University is not out of their reach.
I am an Anglia Ruskin University graduate, I studied Criminology. My experience here was a very positive one, this experiences allows me to speak freely and honestly about my love for our University.
In my spare time, I enjoy gaming, socialising, listening to music and watching films."
Laura Scarle
a>Outreach & Recruitment Officer
laura.scarle@anglia.ac.uk
Ask me about..."Our Roadshow bus and partnership work with Cambridge University"
"My role is to work with local schools and colleges to give students information and advice about going to university. Students can range from Year 6, learning about what uni is, to Year 12 and 13 students preparing for, applying and going to uni themselves. I also work with parents and school staff to enable them to give their students the information they need. I love the variety in my job because no day is ever the same and working in lots of different schools with varying age groups really stretches me.
After studying English and American Literature at the University of Kent, I did my PGCE at the University of Cambridge and worked as a secondary school teacher in a large local comprehensive, before moving into working in the university setting. In my spare time I love to get out on my bike. I am also enjoying rennovating a house with my husband, and keeping our cat Charlie happy also takes up a lot of time."
