Creative Film Making with Animation Techniques
All of our summer schools are FREE!
Who would benefit from attending?
Students interested in studying a wide range of film-related and animation subjects at university, including Film Studies, Film Production, Animation, Music or Music Technology and writing including script writing. It will also benefit those thinking of pursuing careers in film-making, particularly experimental or independent film, animation and in making music for film.

- Students will have an understanding of the film-making/animation process from conception to screen
- Students will gain vocationally relevant skills including screen-writing, sound for film, animation techniques and editing
- Students will develop a range of skills including project planning, team working and time management
- Students will produce a short film which they can use in their portfolio and as part of a university application
- Students will leave with a sense of achievement and feel inspired
- Students will learn about what Film Studies at HE level entails

If so come along to our 2 day non-residential Summer School. You will produce your own creative short film, drawing on a range of animation techniques. The Summer School will include scripting and pre-production, working under a rostrum camera, sound design and editing. It will be delivered by award-winning animator, Elizabeth Hobbs, and include a screening of seminal short films at the Arts Picture House to inspire you.
2013 Programme
- Watch and analyse a screening of different animation techniques.
- Record and create sounds sequences to tell a narrative, using our top-quality equipment and facilities.
- Creative visual exercises that bring still images to life through the use of zoetropes, flipbooks and pixilation.
- Learn about stop-motion animation and bring your own sequences to life.
- Develop a short film project using Macs and editing software.
- Watch your short film on the screen and see it uploaded to Vimeo!
