Parents

We think it's important for you and your child to start thinking about University from an early age. We understand that young people make decisions early that affect whether they can go onto higher education and which course they can study, (e.g. because of their GCSE options).

You might not have gone to University yourself, or maybe you attended some time ago. Lots has changed in the Higher Education sector and it's important for you, as a parent, to be able to support your child in the decisions they make. By attending our family-oriented events you can find out more about both University in general and specifically Anglia Ruskin University. We hope you'll join us.

>> Undergraduate Open Days

Anglia Ruskin Open Days are incredibly popular events. By taking the time to attend, you and your child will get a great introduction to the campuses, our staff and students. You can...
  • Meet our student ambassadors, take a campus tour and ask them what studying at Anglia Ruskin is really like
  • Learn about the current student finance system
  • Ask our academics questions and discuss courses
  • Attend a talk on writing effective personal statements
  • Meet our award-winning Student Services team
  • Find out about accommodation options
Visit our Open Day site for more information and to book.

>> Uni4U

Our team hold a free annual event that has been designed to give younger students and families a taste of the University experience. The day is made up of exciting workshops and interactive activities for everyone to get involved with. If you're not familiar with the University it will also give you a feel for an environment that your child may be interested in studying in.

This years events will include: Handling a Giant Millipede, Cheerleading, Chinese Calligraphy, CPR to music, a Race Car Simulator will be on-site and there will be many more talks and activities to enjoy.

If your child attended our 'Reach for the stars' programme then your child will also get to take part in our Year 6 'Graduation' event.

>> Anglia Ruskin Roadshow Bus

During the summer we visit schools, colleges and town centers with our big green bus. In 2012 we made contact with more than 2,600 people this way. Our popular Roadshow bus will be on the road again this year and is designed to be a one-stop shop for information and advice about Higher Education for students and their families. Look out for more information on where we'll be visiting and when.

>> Summer schools

Every year we offer a number of free residential summer schools for year 12 students with a strong interest in a particular subject area; and non-residential summer schools for students in year 10 exploring what studying at degree level is about.

Details of the 2013 summer school programme have now been confirmed and information about each session can be viewed on our Teachers section of the website: Summer Schools 2013.

For more information about summer schools please email outreachandrecruitment@anglia.ac.uk

>> UCAS conventions

UCAS conventions are held throughout the entire country and this year we will be attending 15 conventions across the region as well as a few further afield. Our staff will be on hand at all conventions to talk to visitors about the university and advise on entry requirements, course details as well as student life at Anglia Ruskin.

>> Student finance

One of the key factors that can affect a child progressing to University is their understanding of student finances. Recent changes to the fees and funding may make you more wary as a parent but with out finance guide (right or available on request) and finance pages on our website, we aim to alleviate your fears.

We hold student finance talks at University Open Days, feel free to pop along and ask us a question.
