Mike Maran tells the story of Italia 'n' Caledonia - the story of his grandparents' generation who left their sunny hillsides to begin new lives elsewhere in the world. Mike's grandparents arrived in Edinburgh over 100 years ago. It is their story and also the story of Italian immigrants throughout the UK - their relationship with the fascist regime in the years before the war, their internment and deportation as 'enemy aliens', and the reconciliation in the post-war years. It is a story of laughter and tears and incorporates full colour movies on a big screen of the great Italian outdoor picnics in the 1930s and a haunting musical score played live on stage by virtuoso accordionist, David Vernon.
