Measurement of osteoporosis by computer assisted analysis of X-rays of the metacarpals
Dr Mark Aitken, Consultant Physician, Colchester General Hospital
Mr Malcolm McKay, Head of Department, Design and Engineering, APU
One simple method of tracking the progress of osteoporosis is to monitor the relationship between the internal and external diameters of the metacarpal bones of the hand by taking measurements from x-rays. In this project, the measurement and record-keeping process has been computerised and is now being compared with manual measurement techniques.
