Mathematical modelling of tibial anterior compartment syndrome
Mr Simon Owen-Johnstone, Orthopaedic Registrar, Broomfield Hospital
Anterior tibial compartment syndrome following tibial fracture is the result of excess fluid pressure within the compartment and requires immediate surgical treatment. A simple geometric model of the anterior compartment has been used to provide a possible explanation for the increased incidence of tibial compartment syndrome when fractures are "over-reduced" during the application external fixators.
