With low carbon economic growth as the focus for European funding in the East of England there are a huge variety of complimentary programmes to the Low Carbon KEEP available to SMEs in the region. They range from free consultancy support, which could help you work up a Low Carbon KEEP project, to capital grants, which could help you implement your project.

Region wide schemes

  • Grants4Growth is a new £8.5m project delivered through the Local Enterprise Partnerships. It provides: capital grants for SMEs to purchase/install efficient new processes, production facilities and clean tech, helping them to invest-to-grow; revenue grants and other direct assistance to support SMEs to promote products/services such clean technology and renewable energy.
  • The Future Business Centre will be an enterprise hub that demonstrates the possibilities for combining good business practice with the business of doing good. It will support start-up and early stage social and commercial businesses developing products that result in social or environmental benefits. Work has started on the site and the opening is planned for autumn 2013.
  • University of Cambridge Institute for Manufacturing PrISMS programme aims to transform the growth prospects of 50 start-ups and 70 SMEs across the Eastern Region - creating more than 140 new jobs and safeguarding many more. The programme is free to participating businesses and aims to help companies grow revenues and profitability, make their products and operations more sustainable, create new jobs and safeguard existing ones
  • Hethel Innovation has European Regional Development Funding (ERDF) to develop new ways to exploit the innovation potential in businesses, harnessing the power of both the private and public sector and piloting new tools and techniques for innovation. Hethel Innovation projects include, Innovation & Technology Forum events, Innovation Conferences, Start-Up and Business Masterclasses, Business support and many other business and innovation support activities
  • REV ACTIVE provides direct, hands-on assistance for businesses to cut costs through utilities management and improved efficiency
  • The Low Carbon Innovation Fund (LCIF) makes early-stage equity investments into SMEs that are developing new and innovative products or processes in a low carbon, environmentally sensitive manner
  • EValu8 Transport Innovations is a not for profit organisation running the Plugged In Places project in the East of England, aimed at rolling out the Electric Vehicle charging network in the region. Evalu8 are offering grants of up to 50% on public or workplace EV charging points (75% for local authorities and SMEs), up to 75% on home charge units and 50% grant for eco build projects
  • SmartLife offers free business support and workshops on a host of issues facing small and medium sized enterprises across the Eastern region
  • Low Carbon Freight Dividend is a £7.5m three-year project designed to encourage containers off the roads and onto rail.Small and medium sized businesses eligible for the scheme will be offered a Low Carbon Freight Dividend (grant) of up to 30% for moving their freight from truck to train, where traditionally they have only used road transport.
  • NIAB Innovation Farm showcases plant genetic innovation and provides free support and assistance for small to medium businesses (SMEs) in the East of England.
  • Really Smart House seeks to stimulate low carbon economic growth in the East of England region by assisting built environment SMEs take advantage of Green business opportunities in the building and construction sector over a two year period

Local support schemes

  • Low Carbon Business Programme provides a co-ordinated programme of support to businesses across Thames Gateway South Essex including expert advice on greening businesses, identifying tailored carbon reduction solutions, small capital grants and apprenticeships
  • SABRE offer support and advice on investment opportunities created by Feed-in Tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive to small and medium-sized businesses /social enterprises in Suffolk
  • Fresh Ways to Work is a free consultancy service aimed at providing small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in Hertfordshire and Suffolk with free travel planning advice. Companies can also gain access to a grant of up to £1,000
  • The East Coast Carbon Efficiency (ECCE) project is offering eligible small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in Suffolk Coastal and rural Waveney, the opportunity to save money by making resource efficiencies, improve the sustainability of their supply chain, access finance and gain recognition for their carbon reduction efforts through a local environmental accreditation
