Fresh Perspectives on Britain's second labour government, 1929-31
A new collections of essays, coedited by Professor John Shepherd, Dr Jonathan Davis (Anglia Ruskin University) and Professor Chris Wrigley (University of Nottingham), reappraises the history of Ramsay MacDonald's second Labour government during the 1929-31 global financial crisis. Published by Manchester University Press in January 2012, this book brings together valuable new research by leading historians from Britain and the USA. In analysing the myths and realities of MacDonald's minority administration, it sheds fresh light on Labour's domestic policies, electoral and party matters, relations with the Soviet Union and ideological questions.
This book resulted from papers presented at the LHRU's highly successful conference in May 2009 which marked the eightieth anniversary of Britain's second Labour government.
