Dr Andrew Winnard has been in the publishing industry for 18 years and currently works at Cambridge University Press. Educated in Manchester and at the University of Liverpool, where he took a PhD in German Literature, Andrew went onto take a Diploma in International Business at Buckinghamshire School of Management. He then became a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

During the early years of his career, he became a translation manager and commissioning editor. An experienced translator of books, he was shortlisted for the Society of Authors' Translations Prize in 1994. In his spare time he is also an artist, working mainly in acrylics and oils, and has taken part in several exhibitions around Cambridge.

Andrew now represents Cambridge University Press which publishes academic and educational writing from around the world. As an international ambassador for Cambridge University Press, he has also served on various committees of the Publishers' Association which represents the whole of the UK industry. He has been instrumental in setting up and validating Anglia Ruskin University's new MA in Publishing. He is honoured for his professionalism and commitment to the publishing sector and for actively encouraging young people to pursue careers within the publishing arena.

"Vice Chancellor, it is my pleasure to read the citation for Andrew Winnard for the award of Honorary Fellow of Anglia Ruskin University.

Dr Andrew Winnard has worked in the publishing industry for 18 years and currently works at Cambridge University Press. Rather than revel in his own success, Andrew has spent his recent years giving something back to the publishing industry. He has been instrumental in the introduction of the new Master of Arts in Publishing at Anglia Ruskin University. Not only did he bring the proposal of the new post-graduate degree to Anglia Ruskin's Faculty of Arts, Law and Social Sciences but he has given his time and professional advice through the initial development and delivery of the programme.

Aimed at existing publishing professionals and those looking to either enter or return to the sector, the MA prepares individuals for a career in the fast-moving new 'digital media' world of publishing. It also benefits those working at publishing houses, including Cambridge University Press and others who have supported the development of the MA, who want to pick up additional knowledge and skills while working within the profession.

Andrew has acted as mentor to Samantha Rayner, the newly-appointed Pathway Leader, giving her an internship at the Press, and helping to connect the course with other publishing companies. He is now willing to act as a professional mentor to some of the incoming students, a move which will make a big impact on these students and their future career development .
