Born in Freienwalde am Oder, Germany, in 1934, Martin Quilisch is a legal academic and formerly Pro Rektor of Fachhochschule fur Wirtschaft. After reading Law and Political Science at the University of Heidelberg between 1953 and 1958, he won a Fulbright Scholarship to study at Claremont Men's College, California. On his return to Germany he completed further postgraduate work at Hamburg and Freiburg. After entering the legal profession he maintained an interest in academic law, working at the Max-Planck Institute in Berlin from 1967 to 1975. He then spent the next 10 years working in local government within the district of Zehlendorf. In 1986 he joined the Fachhochschule fur Wirtschaft as Professor of Law and in 1992 was appointed Pro Rektor. During his time as Pro Rektor he played a key role in developing the relationship between our University and the Fachhochschule fur Wirtschaft.

In 1995 Professor Dr Martin Quilisch was made an Honorary Fellow of the University.

"Martin Quilisch was born in Freienwalde am Oder in April 1934. He is married and has 5 children and 3 grandchildren. He studied Law and Political Science at the University of Heidelberg from 1953-1958 and held a Fulbright Scholarship to Claremont Men's College (California) during his studies. He continued his studies in Hamburg and Freiburg. Following graduation and further legal studies he worked in a legal capacity in Freiburg and between 1967 and 1975 was employed by the Max-Planck Institute in Berlin, following which he spent 10 years working in local government in the district of Zehlendorf.

In 1988 Martin joined the Fachhochschule fur Wirtschaft as a Professor of Law and in 1992 was elected to Pro Rektor. In his capacity as Pro Rektor he has been very active in fostering international links and in particular has been very active in developing the partnership with Anglia.

In addition to his academic work, Martin Quilisch has also made a major contribution to the work of the Evangelischen Kirche since 1987 and in 1994 he was awarded the Bundesverdientkreuz. It is in recognition of his work in fostering international higher education that the University honours Martin with a Fellowship."
