Citation:

"The Senate of Anglia Ruskin University is pleased to confer on Andrew Marsden the award of Honorary Doctor of the University in recognition of his long and dedicated contribution to Britvic Soft Drinks and his illustrious record as a highly successful marketeer.

Anglia Ruskin University places particular emphasis on its engagement with regional stakeholders and communities and is proud of its long standing relationship with Britvic plc.

Andrew Marsden graduated with an honours degree in Business from Bradford. After 15 years in Unilever he joined Freudenberg Vileda becoming Managing Director. In 1994 he joined HP Foods as Marketing Director. He joined Britvic Soft Drinks in 1997 and led the marketing department for ten years. During that time he led some of the company's biggest launches as it expanded its presence in the rapidly-growing still-drinks market. Included in his major achievements is launching the adult soft drink J20, which has become the biggest-selling packaged product in pubs, clubs and bars. He relaunched the Robinsons brand after Britvic bought it from Reckitt and Coleman in 1995, to become the UK's 7th largest grocery brand. He also launched children's range fruitshoot and H20 which are both brand leaders in their categories.

Andrew Marsden, one of the UK's most high profile and outspoken marketers, who is described as "an assiduous networker", recently resigned from his post at Britvic, in order to pursue "more things" outside the soft drinks industry. We are sure, that with his obvious talent and passion for marketing Andrew will make an energetic return, when he is ready, to the marketing arena with great effect.

Andrew is involved in a host of industry groups and associations. He is a Chartered Marketer and Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Marketing Society, the Institute of Sales Promotion and the Royal Society of Arts. He is a Senator of the International Junior Chamber of Commerce and a former Chairman of the Institute of Sales Promotion. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Marketors and a Freeman of the Cities of London and Glasgow. Andrew is a member of the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers Council and a member of the Governmental Advisory Committee on Advertising.

He is also a Director of The Broadcast Committee of Advertising Practice. He is an enthusiastic traveller and enjoys fine wine. He was voted the Telegraph Jaeger-LeCoultre Marketing Director of the Year in 2004, and in 2006 was appointed President of the Marketing Society.

In the light of the above, and exercising the power conferred on me by Senate, may I therefore invite the Vice Chancellor, Mike Thorne, to bestow the award of Honorary Doctor of the University upon Andrew Marsden."
