Junius Ho Honorary Doctor of Laws, 2011
Bio | Citation

Alumnus Junius Ho is a top name in law who has achieved great success in his home country of Hong Kong where he has been the President of the Law Society since his election in May 2011. He is a senior partner of K C Ho & Fong and also the head of its litigation and commercial practice.

Having studied at the Chelmer Institute of Higher Education (now Anglia Ruskin University) in the United Kingdom, Junius obtained his Bachelor of Law's degree in 1984. He then joined the University of Hong Kong for the Post-graduate Certificate in Laws study and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1988. He was subsequently admitted in Singapore and England and Wales in 1995 and 1997, respectively. In 2003, he was appointed as a China-Appointed Attesting Officer by the Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China.

Junius is also a member of the Costs Committee of Judiciary in Hong Kong and has served the Lord Wilson Heritage Trusts as Council Members and Trustee between 2005 and 2011. He has over twenty years of legal experience and is committed to serving the community and contributing to business and economic cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland China through the set up of mentoring, joint initiatives and collaborative projects.

In 2009, Junius successfully applied to the Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China to set up an association with a law firm in Guangdong, a province on China's southern coast. This created one of the foremost official association firms for closer working between legal practitioners in Hong Kong and China.

Being the President and Council Member of the Law Society of Hong Kong, he actively participates in its current affairs and many practice related events. He is also a keen supporter of the Society's social activities, including the annual Trail Walk, a 100km walk supporting various charities including Oxfam. He promotes law as the framework within which society operates, regulating almost all aspects of our lives. Apart from serving his own legal profession, he also serves various government and advisory boards focusing on commerce, trade, investment, transport, rural, environmental and heritage conservation affairs and projects.

In January 1997, Junius was awarded the Badge of Honour by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his services to the community.

Junius is hugely respected within the international law community and has been an outstanding ambassador for Anglia Ruskin University in Hong Kong. Our Anglia Law School is proud to be following his continuing evolution and is delighted to salute his many achievements with this special award.

Vice Chancellor, it is my pleasure to present Junius Ho for the award of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
