Patricia Egerton is former Executive Director of Nursing for the Mid Essex Hospitals Trust. She spent a large part of her career at the Essex Midwifery School, where she served as Head for seven years. She then served as Director of Midwifery Services for Mid Essex from 1986-1990. It was at this time that the idea to integrate services with Anglia was put forward, and recognising the benefits of such a move, Patricia became a determined supporter of the proposal. In 1990 she was appointed Care Group Manager with Mid Essex, then in 1992 became Executive Director of Nursing for the Mid Essex Hospitals Trust. Her remit for both identifying and fulfilling the Nursing and Midwifery education requirements of the Trust, meant she worked closely with Anglia's Faculty of Health & Social Work. Patricia has long been a staunch supporter of the integration of Nursing and Midwifery Education into Anglia.

In 1994 Patricia Egerton was made an Honorary Fellow of the University.

"Paddy spent 17 years in the Mid Essex Midwifery School including 7 years as its Head. She was promoted to Director of Midwifery Services for Mid Essex in 1986, a post she held until 1990. During this period, the possible integration into Anglia was proposed and Paddy became an active proponent in support of this move, recognising this as a natural and beneficial way forward.

In 1990 she moved to the post of Care Group Manager with Mid Essex, actively continuing her support for the development of Nursing and Midwifery education. The Trust at this time was undergoing the Purchaser/Provider split gaining shadow Trust status in April 1992 and full Trust status in April 1993.

In 1992 Paddy was promoted to Executive Director of Nursing for the Mid Essex Hospitals Trust. Her remit included identifying the Nurse and Midwifery education requirements of the Trust and working with the Faculty of Health & Social Work to meet those needs.

As Director of Nursing she became Trust representative on the Essex Purchasing Consortium and in this role brought shape and comprehension to education contract requirements. Paddy has actively promoted Anglia both within the Trust and to a wider audience and has continued to support the Faculty and Anglia since her retirement in 1994.

Paddy has been an active proponent in support of the integration of Nursing and Midwifery Education into Anglia, who quietly but tenaciously fought for the recognition of the importance of pre and post qualifying education for nurses and midwives.

The Honorary Fellowship is awarded by the Senate in recognition of Paddy Egerton's demonstrated commitment to Nursing & Midwifery Education."
